Typical schedule :Fire/Rescue schedules

Position Summary: Attend and successfully complete Firefighters Academy. Successfully complete Field Training after graduation from Academy.                  

Starting salary: Cadet $9.18 for 16 weeks on 2080 schedule. Field training 90 days. 2912 schedule; EMT-B Cadet $11.36;EMT-I  Cadet $11.36; EMT-P $12.84; Completion of FTO  2912 Schedule EMT-B $12.84; EMT-I $13.48; EMT-P $14.86

Firefighter DutiesEach day you report for duty you are responsible for the following tasks. These are not all of the tasks but represent the majority of them. 

  • Performs all firefighting duties and responsibilities at the Firefighter II level. 
  • Consistently demonstrates the highest level of customer service during emergency and routine situations.
  • Station Chores - Cleaning, cooking, minor building maintenance
  • Prefire plan inspections
  • Training - Fire, EMS and physical training
  • Public Relations - Station tours, fire prevention talks, fire extinguisher classes, smoke detector checks
  • Apparatus maintenance - Cleaning, waxing of vehicles

Your shift will begin at 0700.  We average approximately 54 calls for service each shift between the five stations

Qualifications – RequiredCurrent New Mexico EMT license: Must successfully complete a written exam, EMT written exam, work capacity test, oral boards, drug screen, background investigation, and physical.  Minimum age to become a Firefighter:  21.
