Job Status: Temporary/Seasonal  

Full Time Equivalent:  0.25  

Position Summary

The Summer Food Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all of the designated Summer Lunch / Breakfast sites for compliance with established USDA and State regulations; and providing administrative support for the City of Rio Rancho, Rio Rancho Public Schools, and CYFD’s Summer Food Service Program office.  

Education, Training and Experience – minimum required to proficiently perform the job

Education / higher education: High School Graduate or equivalent 

Minimum number of years of directly related experience: One year of   experience working in an office providing administrative support OR working   for a community-based organization. Or   one year of experience in a Summer Food Service Program or other program   designed to offer nutritious and free meals to school-age youths.  

Education and/or experience preferences: Bi-lingual English/Spanish.

Driver’s License requirement: Frequent Driver -- Regular Driver's License      Required Endorsements: None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required to proficiently perform the job

Knowledge: Sensitivity to work with diverse ethnic and cultural-based organizations, City departments, and individuals.  

Skills:  Must be able to type rapidly and accurately enough to successfully produce documents/spreadsheets, communicate via e-mail, or perform data entry as necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the position.   Use of technology, equipment and software typically used in the office environment. Excellent organizational and communication skills.   Bi-lingual. 

Abilities: Effectively complete assigned tasks with little supervision. Tactfully and effectively work with co-workers and representatives and community-based organizations. Willing to travel to all Summer/Snack in all areas of Rio Rancho using public transportation, or may provide own vehicle (must meet City Driving Standards). 

Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with other department supervisors and   managers on routine assignments and special projects. Maintains harmonious, courteous, and   understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork   environment. External: Works with contractors and the general   public on parks and recreation issues and problems. Presents a friendly, courteous image for   the City to the general public, customers, and public officials.  

Authorities and Accountabilities

Level of independent decision making: Moderate--incumbent is expected to analyze situations that are not covered by established procedures or instructions and suggest to supervisor a recommended course of action 

Budgetary/Financial/Asset accountability: Low -- Position is accountable to a Department Director or Division Manager and cannot make major decisions or obligate the City 

Span of control: Responsibility for the assigned workgroup

  • Approximate number of employees indirectly supervised through subordinate managers/supervisors (excludes direct reports): None 

Essential Functions

The following functions are typical for this position. The omission of specific functions does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Serves as liaison between CYFD, City of Rio Rancho, RRPS and Summer Lunch/Breakfast sites.
  • Ensures that food site personnel maintain records and required documents.
  • Prepares reports of site visits, and visits all assigned sites within the first week and as required thereafter.
  • Suggests corrective actions for problems that arise at sites, and ensures that sites take corrective actions to troubleshoot problems.
  • Provides training as necessary to ensure contract compliance, and ensures that site(s) take corrective actions troubleshoot problems.
  • Conducts training of site personnel on an as-needed basis.
  • Ensures each site maintains program supplies at each site.
  • Helps prepare meal count spreadsheets and enter data in computer.
  • Performs other duties as assigned relevant to Summer Lunch / Breakfast site operations.
  • Performs outreach activities in area surrounding lunch sites.
  • Meets with all Summer Food Program Monitors and supervises daily/weekly.
